MeterByte - Frequently Asked Questions

MeterByte is a cloud based web application for managing Meter Reading training, practices and assessments. The Standard and Enterprise versions allow businesses to administer meter reading assessment tests and practices to their staff. The Standard and Enterprise versions include a full user and tess/practices management features with Dashboards and global/user level options. Please see the home page for a full list of features

This type of meter will have five numbers you need to read. You can ignore any numbers in the red areas. Make sure to include any zeros at the start of the meter reading.

This type of meter displays the reading digitally. We write down the number from left to right, ignoring any numbers after the decimal point.

For tariff's where you pay less for electricity at certain times of the day, you may have two displays on your meter. The top row may be the amount of electricity you’ve used at the cheaper rate. The bottom row may the amount of electricity you’ve used at the more expensive rate. Write down both numbers

MeterByte offers three levels: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels.
Beginner Level dials contain both numbers and markings. Intermediate level dials only contain markings but no numbers. Advanced level dials do not contain either markings or numbers

The free version contains 10 questions and is only for individuals interested in taking practices or tests. It only includes the practice/test page. No other features are available

Mixed dials are a combination of 4 or 5 dials. In Practice or Test mode, Meter images will either contain 4 dials or 5 dials

Practice mode allows you to practice analog meter reading. When in practice mode, when an incorrect meter reading is entered, the system will display the correct reading. The timer will continue to run until you complete all the questions or end the practice. A grade report, with the score will be shown upon the conclusion of the practice or if practice was ended.

Test Mode is used for testing your knowledge and skill with meter reading. When in test mode, no correct meter readings are shown and the timer is configured for a set amount of time. Once the timer reaches the limit, the test will end automatically. Alternatively, the questions can be answered before the timer ends

Following is a view of the company Dashboard. This view is only available to administrators.

Total users:
This is the number of users registered in the company who can practice and/or take assessments for Meter Reading
Total Tests Taken:
This is the number of all tests taken in the company to-date by enrolled users.
Total Practices Taken:
This is the number of all practices taken in the company to-date by enrolled users.
Highest Grade:
This is the highest grade achieved by at least one user in the company. This grade is specific to tests only.

These metrics are further broken down by level (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) and dial/meter type (as shown)

The following are not shown on the screen shot. The second section (Company License section) provides the status of the license that is purchased.
The Standard and Enterprise versions comes with a license key, License Activation and a License Subscription End Date.
The third section provides a view of the global preferences set-up by the administrator of the company.
The Global preferences are applied globally to all users within the company. Global preferences can be over-ridden by User Preferences if set by the administrator.

The last, fourth section view of the Company Dashboard provides a list of the top 50 test scores within the company.

Following is a view of the Company Preferences screen. This Company Preferences screen is only available to administrators of a company.

Dials:
Type of Dials available to users for practice or assessments within the company. Check to allow and un-check to disable the use of the type of dial within practices and assessments.
Level
The levels available for practices and assessments. For more information on dials, please see the Dials FAQ
Mode
Allow users to practice and take assessment tests. Uncheck if one does not apply. For more information, see the Tests Mode FAQ and the Practice Mode FAQ.
Number of Questions:
This is the number of questions available to users within the company when practicing or taking assessments tests. Minimum is 10 and maximum is 100.
Time for tests:
The total time allowed for assessment tests. For assessments tests, the timer will count down and once time is up, the test will end regardless if the user had completed answering all questions or not.
Time for practices:
The total time allowed for practices. For practices, timer counts up, so the user can determine how long will it take to complete all the questions. The practice does not end if practice is lapsed.
Pass Grade
The pass grade configured with the company. User must achieve this grade to pass. Maximum is 100 and minimium is 0.
Grade Reports
Once practice or assessments are completed, these options if checked will generate grade reports.
Historical Reports
Keep historical grade reports
Shuffle
Questions are randomized/shuffled for practices and assessment tests, If unchecked, questions will appear sequentially across all practices and assessment tests.
Email Grade Reports
If checked, all grade reports are emailed to the administrator(s) once user has completed practices or tests.
Practice Time Counter
If checked, time counter appears for practice. If unchecked, there will be no time counter for practices.

Following is a view of the User Settings screen. The User Settings screen is only available to administrators of a company.

Add Administrators:
Add Administrators to the company. Only administrators can add other administrators and non-admin users. Only administrators can set global and user preferences.
Add Users
Add users to the company. Once users are added, they will be able to login and take practices and assessment tests.
Delete Icon
The delete icon will remove the user from the company and the user will no longer be able to login.
Edit Icon
The edit icon allows the administrator to issue an new password to the user.
User Preferences Icon
Set user preferences which will override global preferences for the user. More details, please refer to User Preferences FAQ.

Following is a view of the User Preferences screen. The User Preferences screen is only available to administrators of a company. Please note that any options checked or unchecked will only apply to the user and will override global preferences that have been set.

Dials

Your Details Box
The Your details box lists the options that have been selected for the practice.
The Questions
In Practice Mode, the system shows the correct reading(in red) for a dial if an incorrect reading was entered. The total number of questions, as well as the current question number is shown. There is also a timer counter displayed. The system will automatically tab over to the next input box once a reading is entered. The system allows you end the practice any time. The next button allows you to move to the next question.

The Your details box lists the options that have been selected for the test.
The Questions
In Test mode, answers are not displayed if they are entered incorrectly. There is no end test button. Test will end when user has answered all questions or time has expired. The current question number is displayed, as well as the total number of questions. A grade report (or scorecard) is generated at the end of the test.


Report/scorecard card is generated at the end of the test and/or practice
The report card will list the score acquired, pass or fail and show the results of each of the questions attempted.

Following is a view of the User Dashboard. This view is available to all users (non-admin) of a company.

The first section provides the following metrics:

Total Tests Taken:
This is the number of tests that user has taken to date
Total Practices Taken:
This is the number of practices the user has taken.
Total Beginner Tests Taken:
This is the number of all Beginner level tests taken by the user
Total Intermediate Test Taken
This is the number of all Intermediate level tests taken by the user.
Total Advanced Level Test Taken
This is the number of all Advanced level tests taken by the user.
Average Test Score
The average pass rate of all tests taken by the user.

The second section provides the user with the options for starting practices or taking tests.
The third section provides a view of the global preferences set-up by the administrator of the company that will apply to the practices or tests taken by the user.
The last, fourth section list all the practices and tests taken by the user to date
